The park is officially open to the public, and it is beautiful! It's already creating quite a buzz since our dedication ceremony on April 27th where we raised the national flag of the Confederate States of America alongside the US flag. We're receiving a lot of e-mails and phone calls about the park, all of which have been positive, and we have generated quite a bit of interest from the media. (News clips and stories can be seen on our Links page)
Unfortunately, the park has already been struck by vandals! The 4'x8' park sign was broken off from its posts, taken several miles away, and thrown into Salmon Creek in Vancouver (photo above). It is sad that nothing is sacred these days, especially a tribute to a great American, on private property. The sign has now been retrieved from the creek. It has a crack and some scrapes, but is salvageable. Once security lighting is placed at the park in the next week or two, the sign will go back up, and will keep going back or be replaced as needed. We will not give in to these ignorant and cowardly criminals and their disgraceful hate crimes.
In order to pay for these improvements, as well as the continual routine upkeep, we need your help. Please purchase a Memorial Brick! You will have a lasting tribute at the park with the inscription honoring the person or organization of your choice, and you will be helping maintain this historic park and its noble cause.
